NSS Survey and Cartography Section...
By Adam Hughes: "Here is an updated version of the Peacock Springs “Map” produced by Karst Underwater Research as of today. This is a culmination of work that spans over 25 years, and includes surveys collected from Sandra Poucher, Michael Poucher, Mark Long, James Toland, Agnes Milowka, Steve Lambert, Teddy Garlock Derek Dunlop, and me (Adam Hughes). To date, we have documented over 50,000' of linear cave passage at WSPSSP. The map is being added to on an almost daily basis, most of which is new exploration over the last few months. Since Michael Poucher Started the survey project in the 1990’s, LIDAR technology has recently advanced to the point that we can now use it to geo-reference surface features to ensure accuracy of older survey sets, (Spoiler Alert: Mike’s survey is spot on and damn near flawless). This helps us avoid duplicative work, focus our time on exploring new cave (rather than spend time collecting data for current lines), and double check for overlaps/blunders while tying all the survey sets together. Currently this survey is checking out with a degree of error under 1%. across the board To most, this probably looks like just a bunch of squiggly lines, but for some, it is a lifetime of work. The number of people who have helped contribute to this in some way are too many to mention, and I am honored to be a part of it. Well done team. #KarstUnderwaterResearch"
